Kavga ederken hasmından gelen her türlü sandalyeyi ustalıkla kapıp karşı tarafa aynen iade etmesiyle meşhurdur.

(City knighthood): Old Istanbul’s tough-man culture was akin to a kind of “knighthood”.  Istanbul’s “knighthood” had its own informal chivalric codes and accepted ways of functioning, and conforming to these codes was the foremost requirement of being a tough-man.

Kavanoz (“Jar-Head”) Mehmet: Mehmet acquired this epithet because of his big head.  Kavanoz Mehmet, who was from Eyüp, worked as a bird fancier who bred ornamental birds in Edirnekapı.  He was famous for adroitly seizing any type of chair from his adversary while fighting, and returning it right back at the other party.
